Script Ideas and Planning

I looked at existing Doctor Who scripted from the episode titled 'The End of the World', I looked at this script as I felt the themes would be relevant to this project. I took the script extract from the book titled 'Doctor Who The Shooting Scripts'. In this extract Rose talks about the world ending and The Doctor also reminisces on his home planet that was destroyed. As you can see I noted many ideas on these pages to help write my script for my film.

Sci Fi Dramas

I've decided that my film is going to be the opening to a new science fiction drama to be aired on TV. The series would be called 'The Last Message from Earth'.

It is important to understand how different countries interpret and produce science fiction within television. British television has produced many science fiction programs over the years, the first being in 1938, as part of BBC's pre-war programming. The show 'R.U.R. was broadcast live from Alexandra Palace, and was the only scince fiction program broadcast before the war.
Britian's most successful science fiction drama is Doctor Who, which was first aired in 1963 on the BBC. The show was off air from 1989, except in 1996 a Doctor Who movies was produced by British and American networks. Doctor Who then fully revived in 2005 and airs currently to this day. Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction drama in the world.


America is most likely responsible for producing the most science fiction television programs. Their most famous being Star Trek. Star Trek first aired in 1966 and has since had many spin off series and movies. In recent years America has gone on to produced many other popular series including The X-Files, Stargate SG-1, Lost, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

Here is the opening of Torchwood Children of Earth Day 5. The scene involves Gwen, one of the main character's talking direct to camera, talking about the Earth. This video has highly inspired me and influenced my ideas.

Torchwood Children of Earth Trailer

Here is a trailer for BBC Sci-Fi drama Torchwood. There is a clip show at 0:19 of one of the main female characters Gwen talking directly to the camera as a video message, a cry for help. I like this style within the drama as it adds to the desperation on the character's and the human race. This is what I feel would be shown if Earth could send one last message to send it would be a call for help at total despair.

The Last Message from Earth

For this project I want to create a small moving image film. I want to create a film shown as either a video diary or as monologue a cry for help to save the Earth, the last message from Earth.
